Abstract
The attachment-based play interaction applied with Theraplay was devised to examine changes in the adjustment of foreign infants to childcare centers. We conducted a four-week play interaction-based Theraplay with five infants¡¯ teachers at a childcare center in Seoul and examined these types of changes. The specific results of this study are as follows. First, foreign infants initially expressed disapproval of one-to-one interactions, but they gradually participated in play interactions with their peers. Second, as the play interactions were repeated, foreign infants also took the initiative in these interactions, which led to positive changes in their daily lives. Third, foreign infants gradually became closer to their teachers, and their relationship with their peers also improved. Fourth, other infants in the classroom also played together, and a positive effect of reducing maladjustment was observed. The attachment-based play interaction program applied in this study was easy for childcare teachers to apply and helped to promote attachment with teachers, improve peer relationships, and form positive self-esteem.
